BDA trade unionBenefits of Membership

Hi – my name is Dorothy (Dot) Hopwood.

I am the Dietetic Assistant Observer Member on Council and I would like to tell you a little bit about the BDA Trade Union – THE Trade Union for Dietetic Support Workers!

As an associate member of the BDA, you will be entitled to full Trade Union representation and advice because the BDA is also the Trade Union for the profession. Therefore, you will have no requirement to be a member of any other Trade Union and you will have no extra fees to pay as this is all included in your annual BDA membership subscription. This is less expensive than joining some other Trade Unions and includes all the other benefits of BDA membership which other Trade Unions do not offer!

I have been an associate member of the BDA and, therefore, a member of the BDA Trade Union, for around 7 years – I was one of the first 8 founder associate members in fact – and although, thankfully, I have never had the need to use the services of the Trade Union, it is always comforting to know that it is there if I need it!

As you can imagine – the BDA is the union that most understands the working of dietetic departments within NHS Trusts and PCTs, both in hospitals and the community, where growing numbers of dietetic support workers are making an increasingly valuable and important contribution to the way these departments function. The BDA Trade Union is committed to protecting all its’ members interests and trained local Trade Union representatives are available to represent the interests and views of BDA members relating to Local Employment Relations issues including: Pay & Conditions, Equal Opportunities, Maternity Rights, Health and Safety and much more. The BDA Trade Union can also help and advise you on Agenda for Change appeals if required.

So join the BDA today and make a difference by becoming one of the increasing numbers of Dietetic Support Workers who already enjoy all the benefits of BDA membership and Trade Union representation!
