Centre for Education and Development

CED courses for a specialism of dietetics are designed to provide an introductory level for dietitians who are new to that specialist area.  They are designed to build on knowledge which may have been acquired during dietetic training or introduce a new clinical area.  The courses provide the knowledge to support practice at entry level to the profession or speciality and are an opportunity to debate the practical issues with advanced dietitians and peers.

Dietetic support worker courses can be used as an introductory level for new support workers or for those that have been working and would like some formal training.  It is also a really valuable opportunity to discuss work and exchange good practice with their peers.  The courses can also provide underpinning knowledge for S/NVQ qualifications.

Quality

The CED is committed to providing quality assured education.  There are a number of quality processes to ensure that this is provided.

Course development is usually conducted by a BDA Specialist Group or by an advanced practitioner in the specialism.  The course is then assessed by a CPD assessor and processed through BDA endorsement.  Courses are then reviewed after each course, following delegate feedback.  A substantial review is then made every 2 years or when a major change to practice is introduced.

Facilitators and speakers are required to have previous teaching experience and are currently working at an advanced level in the required course specialism.

The requirements of the franchise centres are set out in the franchise handbook and must be followed by each franchise centre.  An annual check of the facilities is made by a member of BDA staff.

Delegate feedback is very important to us.  We provide an evaluation form to each delegate at the end of a course.  This information is then collated and feedback is given to the facilitator and franchise host so, if needed, improvements can be made.  Course content is also reviewed following this feedback.
