Research Workshop: Abstract writing and poster presentation

This course is an introduction to disseminating research, audit or service evaluation. The course is delivered in two sections, firstly writing a research abstract which may be submitted as an original communication at a conference, in particular to a BDA organised event such as the BDA Annual Conference and the Symposia for Dietitian’s New to Research. The second section will concentrate on the preparation and presentation of posters at a conference.
Aims
- To enable dietitians to develop skills in abstract writing which will enable them to submit their research, audit or service evaluations as original communication at conferences.
- To encourage dissemination of their work and participation at BDA and external events.
- To provide the skills and knowledge necessary to construct and deliver a poster presentation at BDA or external events.
- To provide constructive criticism of abstracts and posters in a friendly, non-threatening environment.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course Dietitians will be able to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of disseminating the findings from research, audit and service evaluation.
- Write an abstract that is suitable for submission to BDA and external events.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to design the contents of a poster.
- Construct a poster using PowerPoint.
