Where and When

13 May 2008
University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey
Facilitators: Sue Lloyd and Elaine Gardner

Aim

Continuing professional development (CPD) is a continuous and structured process.

The aim of this course is to provide a structured framework based on HPC requirements to enable dietitians to demonstrate effective CPD.  This framework supports dietitians to demonstrate that they have retained their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice by means of a portfolio.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the one-day course dietitians will:

  • Be aware of up-to-date requirements of the HPC for professional re- registration.
  • Be aware of where they can keep-up-to date with changes in the requirements of the HPC for professional re- registration.
  • Be clear about how a portfolio should be structured.
  • Be clear about how their personal development process interfaces with the portfolio, e.g. for NHS based staff how the portfolio interfaces with the KSF; for others how the portfolio interfaces with a personal development plan.
  • Be clear about what can be included in a portfolio and what cannot, including:
    • Personal details.
    • KSF profile and assessment / Personal development plan.
    • What is evidence of development?
    • Reflection on evidence of development.
  • Be clear about how information should be presented in a portfolio.
  • Be clear on how to structure a plan to put together a portfolio.
  • Be clear about the process of presenting the portfolio for assessment (if the information is available).

You are encouraged to bring one or two pieces of evidence that you want to include in your portfolio to the training day.  These pieces of evidence will be used for personal work and as the basis of structured discussion in small groups.
