Centre for Education and DevelopmentIntroduction

The British Dietetic Association Centre for Education and Development (CED) provides dietitians, dietetic assistants and others with quality-assured education programmes of relevance to dietetics and nutrition.

If you wish to train as a dietitian, you will need to complete a relevant degree course. These courses are not provided by the CED. Click here for information about degree courses.

Supporting your continuing professional development (CPD)

The Centre will provide the focus for the development of educational programmes suited to the changing needs of dietitians. The Centre plays a major role in supporting members to meet the demands of the Health Professions Council (HPC), employers and the expectations of patients now and in the future. It supports dietitians to maintain competence to practice and deliver a high standard of patient care. For more information about CPD, visit the members area of the website.

The Centre has an open/flexible learning programme for re-entrants to the profession.

Supporting dietetic assistants

The BDA recognises the need to develop educational programmes to support the growing workforce of dietetic assistants working within dietetic departments across the UK. The CED will provide programmes, which have been or are currently being developed, with nutrition support workers in mind. If you are a Dietetic Assistant and are interested in become an Associate Member, please contact our Membership Co-ordinator.

The future

The current provision is under review to provide an expanded rolling programme of quality courses and events that is proactive in supporting the needs of the profession and which responds to the requests of our members. This will include the delivery of courses at locations across the United Kingdom as well as investigating distance learning, including e-learning
