There are two ways to qualify as a Registered Dietitian:

  • Completion of a relevant Degree.
  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Qualification.

All courses include a period of practical training in hospital and community settings, approved by the Health Professions Council).

Please note that all undergraduate degree courses are four years full-time, unless otherwise stated. There are no correspondence courses in dietetics.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for undergraduate degree courses vary, but you will normally be expected to have obtained 'A' level passes (or Scottish/Irish equivalent) in 2 or 3 science subjects, preferably Chemistry and another science subject (Mathematics is regarded as a science subject). Also, you should have Mathematics and English to GCSE standard. A good command of spoken and written English is essential. Naturally, equivalent Scottish and Irish qualifications are acceptable. Access courses in science and BTEC science qualifications may also be acceptable. Remember that each application is considered on its own merit.
