Dear students,
My name is Amber Samuels and I am your representative on the BDA Council for the upcoming year. I am training to be a dietitian through the post-graduate diploma at Leeds Metropolitan University, following an undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Nottingham. I therefore hope I can represent the views of both undergraduate and post-graduate students, whilst empathising with the issues that matter to you all.
I am very keen to be your ‘voice’ at the council meetings, so please let me know of any issues that are of concern or interest to you all. This can be either through the BDA forum, or via email at studentmember@bda.uk.com. I will be very pleased to hear from you so please don’t hesitate in getting in touch.
Here are five reasons why you should join the BDA:
- As a BDA student member, you now have online access to the members' magazine, Dietetics Today, and the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, meaning that you can keep up-to-date with all the news in the profession and have access to the latest research for your academic work.
- You'll also receive a 25% discount on the BDA's Manual of Dietetic Practice - a vital text for student dietitians. The fourth edition is available, so join up today and receive your discount!
- We have developed a dedicated student area of our members' website, including advice on placements and research, help with CV writing and interview techniques, and tips on carrying out research and audits - in fact, just about everything you'll need as a student dietitian!
- And as a student member, your very own elected student delegate will represent you on Council among the BDA's top decision makers. So if you have concerns or suggestions to make, why not contact your student rep by emailing studentmember@bda.uk.com?
- New for 2011/2012. First year undergraduate students can subscribe to the BDA's on-line evidence-based nutrition and dietetic resource PEN free in their first year. The standard student rate is £45.
Your membership as a student will also provide you with access to many more BDA resources and services.
I would strongly encourage each of you to join the BDA, an organisation bringing you the most up to date information regarding the world of dietetics and helping to support you in your education and ultimately your career development. So don’t delay, join the BDA today!
I wish you all a happy and successful year in your studies and placements.
Amber
