The BDA has the following prestigious Honours which it annually bestows on members and non-members.
Find out more about:
Fellowship of the Association was first awarded in 1979 and to date 94 Fellowships have been awarded. Fellowship is the highest honour which the Association can bestow upon a member in recognition of her or his achievements. The following criteria apply:
Nominations for Fellowship should be made to the Honorary Secretary on the nomination form below and supported by at least 5 signatures of Full Members of the Association, or by a decision of a Branch, a Specialist Group, or a Board of the Association. The individual concerned should not be approached or be made aware of the nomination.
All nominations received will be acknowledged by the Honorary Secretary. The Honorary Chairman and the Honorary Secretary will screen the nomination for completeness. If necessary the Honorary Secretary will seek clarification or amendment at this point. The formal acknowledgement to the nominators will inform them that the nominee will be notified direct if the nomination is successful.

Nominators should provide evidence to support the nomination under each of the following headings. The individual will have:
- shown personal commitment and significant contributions to the profession of dietetics over a minimum of 5 years;
- actively participated in the work of the Association at a Regional, Branch or Specialist Group level;

- given outstanding service to the profession.
Roll of Honour
The Roll of Honour recognises and rewards many of our members who have contributed to a defined piece of work or activity in the past year. Nominations should have made a significant contribution to the piece of work such as taken leadership for the task or given considerable personal time and effort to the outcome. Nominations should have provided services beyond that which would be expected of standard member contributions to committees/working groups etc.
In addition nominations would not normally fulfil the criteria for another BDA Honour or Award such as an Ibex or Fellowship which are bestowed by Council for contributions over many years of practice.
To nominate someone please just email the Honorary Secretary (email@example.com) with details of who you wish to nominate and why. Nominations are dealt with throughout the year and can be awarded by BDA Council at any time.
Council will take the final decision on conferring all Honours (except the Roll of Honour, which is considered throughout the year) at its March meeting at the latest. The discussions will be confidential and no further correspondence will be entered into. Successful nominees will be informed by the Honorary Secretary, following which a notice will appear in Dietetics Today. Every effort will be made to present the Honours at appropriate meetings of Members of The British Dietetic Association (e.g. at a National Conference or the AGM). To ensure nominations are fully considered by the Honours Committee and by Council, please submit all nominations by 30 January at the latest.
