Déjà vu. Yes, I am back!
My last blog as Chairman was written on 2 June 2015. Never in a million years did I think I would be back again. Just in case you are wondering "What on earth is going on?" or as we say in Barrybados.. "What’s occurring?" I will attempt to explain in a nutshell.
The BDA Chairman tenure in a way is for 3 years. There is Year 1 as Chair Elect where the outgoing chair delegates the role before they step down. Then follows 2 full on, action packed years as "IT" i.e. the Chairman.
In January this year the position of Chair Elect became unexpectedly vacant and (as the most recent previous Chairman 2013-15) I was approached to take on this position and become BDA Chair for 12 months to induct a new Chair Elect into the role. Caroline Bovey, Chair of Bwrdd Cymru was elected Chair Elect at the BDA AGM on 12 June 2017 and thus we begin our journey together.
So here I am. Back as Chairman of this amazing organisation and already I have a jam packed year ahead including 3 biggies:
- Chairman’s Theme for 2017 – 2020.
The aim is to prove how essential dietitians are to the Prevention (of ill health) and the Optimisation (of health and well-being) across all sectors with the Working title of: 'Go 2 Profession' or 'Go 2 Dietitian'
- Governance Review of Council
- 2018 – 2021 BDA Strategic Plan.
I will of course be writing more as the year unfolds and after an inspiring BDA Vision event in March and a novel first multi-location AGM in June I am absolutely delighted to be your BDA Chairman once again. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Chairman Fiona Mccullough for an outstanding 2 years and a brilliant Workplace Health Campaign. The successful BDA WorkReady programme continues to grow...amazing.
It is also great working with CEO Andy Burman, Deputy CEO Sue Kellie and Team BDA once again. I've missed you guys!!
Feedback on my Chairman’s Theme or the AGM will be gratefully received.
Editor's note: Sian was on holiday in July when the first meeting of the new BDA Council took place, the Awards Dinner and the Groups & Branches Day. Sian recorded this video to be played at those events:Back
