Reduction in length of stay in stroke patients

Dietitians can reduce the length of stay in hospital by up to 5.5 days by working with SLTs to manage nutritional intake.

The national average daily cost for inpatient care for nontransient stroke or cerebrovascular accident (AA22Z) was £292. (Reference costs 2009/10). A reduction of length of stay by 5.5 days could potentially save around £1,600 per episode.
