Support Workforce

Dietetic Subject Matter Expert

The British Dietetic Association (BDA) and British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) are embarking on a project to establish a climate that facilitates a cultural shift and greater understanding of the scope and career progression opportunities presented by the dietetic/orthoptic support workforce. This programme is funded by Health Education England but covers all four nations.

Specifically, the programme will deliver the following outputs over the next twelve months:

  • Dietetic Support Workforce Professional Development Framework
  • Supporting resources including:
    • Outline of role entry requirements
    • Outline of training and education requirements
    • Roles and Responsibilities
    • Agreed Job Titles
    • New/Updated National Job Profiles
    • Example job descriptions
    • Myth busting paper e.g., supervision, delegation
    • Updated professional body webpages

The project will be overseen by an external Project Manager, Professor Richard Griffin, in collaboration with a Subject Matter Expert from each profession. They will work together to establish an Expert Working Group encompassing all relevant stakeholders to achieve the above aim.  

The BDA are currently recruiting for the position of Dietetic Subject Matter Expert to facilitate and lead this work on behalf of the BDA. There will be remuneration for this project, to be discussed on application.

Working Group: Support Workers/Assistant Practitioners

We are currently looking for dietetic support workers/assistant practitioners, across all levels and all four countries, to join our Expert Working Group. In particular, we are looking for support workers with:

  • More than one year’s experience in a relevant dietetic support worker role  
  • Experience of supporting and/or supervising other members of the support workforce.
  • Experience working in a team
  • Enthusiasm for supporting and developing the workforce

The Expert Working Group is likely to meet virtually between 4-6 times, over the next 10 months. As a group member you will be expected to engage on project work in-between meetings.
