BDA Vision - a success!

BDA Vision was held on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 June 2014 at Novotel, Broad Street, Birmingham. With over 100 people attending the two day event, there was lively atmosphere and discussion during the conference.

The programme ‘Outcomes and Impacts’ included discussions from Judyth Jenkins, Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board, Linda Hindle, Public Health England, Michele Sandelson, London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Barts NHS Trust, Andrew Nwosu, Regional Allied Health Professions Lead, Carol Weir, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Shirena Counter and Keith Meadows, Royal Free London NHS Trust and Deirdre Fee, Cambridge Community Services .. to name a few.

Conference programme and speakers

The Elsie Widdowson Lecture 2014 was given by Dr Miranda Lomer PhD, MBDA, RD on ‘From food additives to FODMAPs: a dietetic journey through gastroenterology’. Miranda is Senior Consultant Dietitian in Gastroenterology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London. Read more about the lecture. Following day one the BDA Annual Awards Dinner was overseen by Honorary Chair Siân O’Shea with over 90 people attending.

Specialist Group of the Year – NAGE (Nutrition Advisory Group for Older People).

IBEX Award – Debbie Provan and Candice Ward.

Honorary Associate – Dr Sumantra Ray.

Dame Barbara Clayton Award - Nicola Henderson and Caroline Ritchie, Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Central Scotland for ‘Renal dietetic Database: Innovative use of desktop software to increase dietetic patient facing time with haemodialysis patients.’

Rose Simmonds Award - Samford Wong, Stoke Mandeville Hospital for his published work ‘A Lactobacillius casei probiotic drink reduced antibiotic-associated diarrhoea in patients with spinal cord injuries: a randomised control trial.’

Elizabeth Washington Award  - Deepa Kariyawasam, King’s College Hospital, London for her published work within the field of education ‘Diabetes and Dialysis – Nutritional Considerations’
