This is an interactive study day designed for those dietitians new to allergy or who need a basic level of knowledge. Attendance will enable dietitians to acquire the knowledge towards meeting the competencies set out by NICE and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health on the recognition, diagnosis and management of cow’s milk allergy.
To meet the basic competencies set out by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and Royal College of Paediatric and Child Heath (RCPCH) Care Pathways for the recognition, diagnosis and management of cow’s milk allergy (CMA) in infants and children.
Key areas the study day will cover are:
- The difference between allergy and intolerance including basic immunology
- The prevalence of cow’s milk allergy
- Diagnosing the NICE way – which questions to ask
- Basics of diagnostic tests and how to interpret
- Diagnostic diets and choosing the right formula
- Food challenges and reintroductions
- Which foods to avoid for a milk free diet and suitable replacements
- Complementary feeding in the milk allergic child
- Vitamin deficiencies and faltering growth
Before attending the course delegates are required to complete an online module before they attend the classroom course, access to the online module will be sent to registered delegates prior to the course date
