The 2018 Study Day 'Where are we with parenteral nutrition?' took place on Wednesday 26 September at theStudio in Birmingham.  We got to hear all about the latest evidence for the use of parenteral nutrition in different clinical scenarios and how to manage the complications that can arise.  It was a great event giving an opportunity for Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and Student Dietitians to learn, network and share.

There were presentations from:

  • Parenteral Nutrition in pancreatic disease - Mary Philips, HBP Dietitian
  • Surgical complications including fistula and short bowel - Mel Baker, Intestinal Failure Dietitian
  • National audit of small bowel obstruction - Matt Lee, Colorectal Surgeon
  • Complications of parenteral nutrition - Alison Culkin, Intestinal Failure Dietitian

With our popular workshop sessions including:

  • Estimating requirements for Parenteral Nutrition in obesity - Bruno Mafrici, Alison Culkin, Mel Baker and other PENG committee members
  • Formulating a bespoke bag of parenteral nutrition - Eileen Baker, Pete Turner, Mel Baker, Alison Culkin

And of course our "heated debate" of PN vs EN
