The HCPC provide clear and useful information on their website therefore as a first point of call, members are directed to their CPD pages.
This page provides access to audit guidance modules and tools and alerts to relevant CPD activities and events run by the BDA.
For further information or guidance, please contact the BDA’s Education and Professional Development Team on 0121 200 8080 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is the Audit?
All HCPC registrants are required to undertake CPD and record their activities within their portfolio. In 2016 the HCPC audit will randomly select 2.5% of registered dietitians to complete the HCPC’s CPD profile showing how their CPD meets the HCPC standards. The audit will cover CPD activities over the preceeding two years. Notification of selection will be sent out at the same time as registrant renewal forms in April 2016. If selected for audit your completed portfolio must be submitted to the HCPC by the renewal deadline in June 2016.
What if I am chosen?
All dietitians on the HCPC register have an equal chance of selection regardless of where they are based, within Britain or overseas, or their current work situation, for example part-time, full-time or on maternity leave. The audit will cover the two years leading up to the audit and therefore newly qualified dietitians or those returning from a career break will not normally be called they have not been on the HCPC register for 2 years. For further information please visit the ‘FAQs’ (frequently asked questions) page of the HCPC website.
If you are selected for audit you will receive notification from the HCPC and will be asked to put together your CPD profile. Please take a moment to ensure your contact details are up-to-date with both the HCPC and the BDA.
What is CPD?
The HCPC defines CPD as:
A range of learning activities through which health and care professionals maintain and develop throughout their career to ensure that they retain their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice. HCPC, 2013
Every dietitian knows that CPD is an essential part of their professional development and undertakes many activities even on a daily basis however this is very different to being selected for audit and required to produce a CPD profile therefore as part of this campaign. Sample profiles can be found on the HCPC website, and these will hopefully help to take away some of your concerns about this activity.
