How long are placements?
In the UK, it is required that a student completes no less than 1000 hours of placement time, with at least one placement consisting of 350 hours in the final year of placement.
This placement does not need to be conducted in a single location. In traditional placements, a student may spend some weeks within the acute setting and some within the community. Increasingly, this format is also being used to provide students with experience in new sectors including industry, social care, third sector and public health, thus increasing student knowledge and reducing pressure on the department.
