Join for the first face to face study day since 2020. Our lineup of expert speakers is now confirmed and topics include the use of digital services in gastroenterology, irritable bowel syndrome, eosinophilic oesophagitis, gut directed hypnotherapy, liver disease and ileostomy management.

Digital transformation of IBS services, with Emma Stennett, Senior Gastroenterology Dietitian and IBS Transformation Lead for South East London at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

More about Emma - She has worked in the NHS for a decade with most of that time spent in gastroenterology and hepatology.  She has been working in a digital transformation role over the last year with a focus on implementing digital triage tools and reducing post Covid-19 waiting lists, as well as being one of the leads for building and implementing the new electronic patient record, Epic, within Nutrition and Dietetics at Guy’s and St Thomas’. Emma is working with IBS dietitians in all corners of the UK to try to standardise IBS care and support those centres with less dietetic funding and is about to start a role standardising IBS care across South East London.

Digital dietetic screening identifies unrecognised mental disorders and overlapping and missed DGBI diagnosis in referrals to tertiary care neurogastroenterology dietetics, with Lee Martin, Neurogastroenterology Dietitian, UCLH.

More about Lee - He has been practicing as a registered dietitian for 16 years and has worked across primary, secondary and tertiary care as well as in academia.  In 2018 he was appointed as the UK’s first Neurogastroenterology Dietitian at UCLH where he works currently.  In this role Lee works closely with the GI Physiology Unit and Neurogastroenterology Consultants in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is always happy to discuss challenging neurogastro dietetic cases.

More about Hannah - She is a gastroenterology outpatients Dietitian at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. She also runs a private dietetic practice and is the co-founder of The Contented Gut, offering Gut Directed Hypnotherapy to patient with IBS.

More about Liane - She is the Adult Allergy Specialist Dietitian at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford where she diagnoses and advises adults on the management of food allergies and intolerances. She runs a private practice in Wantage, Oxfordshire specialising in supporting patients with dietary advice and hypnotherapy for chronic symptoms including IBS. She is also co-founder of The Contented Gut, offering Gut Directed Hypnotherapy to patients with IBS. Liane has co-authored FASG diet sheets, BDA fact sheets and BDA IBS guidelines.

Dietary management for people with an ileostomy with Dr Alexandra Mitchell, RD PhD

Complications of ileostomy formation include high output and obstruction, for which dietary management is common but not clearly defined. In this talk, I will discuss dietary advice and modifications for ileostomy management through investigation of the current evidence and experiences of people with an ileostomy, and healthcare professionals.

More about Dr Alexandra Mitchell - She is a research dietitian at Cardiff University working on an NIHR funded project looking at inclusive prehabilitation for cancer patients.  Dr Alexandra Mitchell completed her PhD at the University of Bristol, in 2021, on the topic of dietary advice and management for people with an ileostomy, she has published multiple journal publications on this topic and have presented her research at national and international conferences e.g., BAPEN and ESPEN. Also advising on the development of patient resources for dietary management of ileostomies and colostomies, and diverticular disease, working with Coloplast and NDR-UK. Before starting her PhD in 2017, she worked as an acute hospital dietitian in various specialities including surgery, gastro, and critical care. Dr Alexendra  Mitchell is passionate about clinical research and evidence-based (not evidence-tinged!) practice in clinical nutrition and dietetics..
