The BDA Bwrdd Cymru, BDA South Wales Branch and BDA North West & North Wales Branch are hosting an evening event on Wednesday 8 October at Village Hotel Cardiff.

For us to plan, we would like members and non-members to register their interest in attending by completing the form below 

When? Wednesday 8 October from 4.45pm for 5pm start to 7.30pm

Where? Village Hotel Cardiff, parking on site and 5 minutes from train station, we are also planning to offer travel bursaries for those travelling from North Wales (details below) 

What? Talks will cover case studies and talks from dietitians on advancing together, leading the way, future growth and value-based healthcare. Speaker details are below. We are also inviting posters to be displayed to share best practice. Refreshments and food will be available.

Speakers 

  • Dee Lowry, Assistant Director Value & Efficiency, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board will present Feeding value: how dietitians can shape the future of Value-based Healthcare in Wales

This talk explores how dietitians play a pivotal role in delivering care that truly nourishes people – not just through food, but through understanding what matters to them. Dee Lowry will share insights from her work embedding Value-Based Healthcare, highlighting how dietitians can lead system change by focusing on outcomes that reflect people’s real lives, choices and experiences.

  • Tanya Rumney, Workforce Lead, BDA and Lisa Williams, All-Wales Nutrition Training Facilitator, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will present An update on the enhanced and advanced practice BDA workforce project

Tanya will provide an update on the work the BDA is undertaking to promote opportunities for dietitians within the enhanced and advanced levels of practice, including an overview of the dietetic career framework which was launched in May 2025. Lisa Williams has developed a case study, available on the BDA Advanced Practice webpages, and she will be discussing her career and development into the advanced level of practice in more detail.   

  • Orla Adams, Dietetic Lead for Maternal Weight Management and Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, Cardiff and Vale UHB presenting Why MI? - Fueling Healthy Futures Through Prevention: The Power of Motivational Interviewing in Dietetics.

Orla will share how Motivational Interviewing is effective in Dietetic practice across the lifespan with a focus on prevention. She will share experiences of learning and implementing MI into conversations about change across a broad range of settings and conditions.

  • Sian Taylor, Clinical Specialist and Strategic Lead Dietitian CAMHS, ABUHB and Angharad Banner, Highly Specialist Paediatric & CAMHS Dietitian, CTM will present ARFID - where are we in Wales

Poster submission

We are inviting posters to be submitted to share best practice. Posters can be submitted at the time of registration and/or post registration. 

Bursaries 

We are offering limited travel bursaries to those who are travelling more than one hour. Bursaries are open to all* but aimed at those from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Hywel Dda University Health Board and Powys Teaching Health Board plus those working in freelance. 

Please express your interest when registering, and we will send further details. We will require the following: projected cost, distance of travel, and length of travel (time).
