Stephen Lawrence Day – 22 April

22 Apr 2021

The date 22 April marks a celebration of Stephen’s life and legacy on the anniversary of his murder.

The Trade Union movement understands the way racist violence continues to scar our society and ends the lives of members of black and minority ethnic groups. The BDA Trade Union stands resolutely opposed to the racism that resulted in Stephen Lawrence’s murder and that hindered efforts to bring the culprits to justice.

We recognise the need for black voices in our workplaces, our unions, and our elected representatives. We understand that for truly transformational change, racism must be rooted out in every aspect of our society including economic, educational, industrial, the justice sector, and beyond.

We are proud to support the efforts of our members, of the TUC Race Relations Committee and the TUC Black Workers Conference in their work to bring about real and lasting positive social change.
