Mary Turner Award (Trade Union Representative of the Year)

Named in memory of former BDA President Mary Turner, a tireless advocate of women in trade unionism and nutrition for school children.

Our members turn to our Trade Union Reps in times of need and they are essential to our support to the profession. They make time to listen to members, solve problems and make a huge difference to members' lives.

This award thanks one representative who has demonstrated the qualities of excellence and commitment.

2023 Winner - Vicki Bennett, NHS Fife

Vicki is a longstanding and very experienced trade union representative who has been representing members both individually and collectively at all levels since 2011. Vicki is an excellent local rep in NHS Fife having undertaken many individual cases and worked with colleagues on the staff side as well as supporting other BDA Reps in Scotland. She has been an active member of the Scottish Employment Relations Committee for many years carrying out the role of Secretary for the past five years.

In 2021 Vicki was elected to represent Scotland on the newly formed Trade Union National Executive Committee and subsequently elected Chair at the inaugural meeting.
