Undergraduate Programme: Christina Docherty

Postrgaduate Programme: Maire Concannon

Maire spoke about receiving the award and what this has meant going forwards:

"For me, winning the BDA West of Scotland Prize for Best Overall Performance on Practice Placements, was the biggest honour I could have hoped for when I started my PgD in Dietetics. We spend so much time in university focusing on clinical conditions and possible dietetic interventions but knowing I could use this knowledge to work with service users to develop effective person-centred care plans made me realise that I was no longer just a student but a competent dietitian. Being able to put this award on my CV, gave me a new found confidence in interviews to prove to the panel why I would be a good addition to any dietetic team and without a doubt helped me secure my first job as a Band 5 Dietitian."

2017 Winners

2016 Winners

Winners won a ticket to the BDA Scotland Event in Dunfermline in September 2016.

Undergraduate: Marysia Maxwell

Postgraduate: Emma Jane Lynch

"I was lucky enough to get a free ticket to the BDA conference Dietitians shaping the future of Scotland's health. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was a great opportunity to network with other dietitians from various parts of Scotland and with different dietetic experience. The breakout sessions were particularly interesting especially 'Innovation in practice' in relation to experiences of dietitians working with homeless people. All the speakers throughout the day were passionate and raised thought-provoking points of information. The event was very well organised and went off without a hitch."

2015 Winners

The undergraduate winner was Sientje Dombrowski, who was presented her award by our Chair Alison Chrystal. Sientje had a few words to say about her prize:

“I would like to thank the BDA West of Scotland Branch for the prize I have been awarded. I am delighted and grateful to receive their recognition and support. Being a dietetic student on placement has been such an exciting time and helped tremendously with the transition from studying for work at University to the actual work place. I will be starting my first post as a Band 5 dietitian soon and the prize money is a very welcome contribution towards purchasing the newest edition of ‘The Manual of Dietetic Practice’."

Unfortunately, the postgraduate prize winner, Fiona Kinnear was unable to attend the ceremony but shared her thoughts about the prize:

“I was delighted to hear I had won the award and to hear about the prize money was an unexpected bonus! I will be using it to help me set up in London where I am starting a nutrition graduate scheme with Nestle this September. Thanks to the west of Scotland branch for this
