About BDA Industry Specialist Group:
The BDA Industry Specialist Group will represent dietitians working in all areas of industry.
The specialist group will aim to develop CPD and networking opportunities, support and
encourage career progression, develop policy and resources and cultivate the future
workforce by fostering talent and creating student placements.

More about Emily - Emily Stuart is a Registered Dietitian for leading food manufacturer Apetito and Wiltshire Farm Foods, who are producers of nutritious and delicious meals into the Health and Social Care Sector, including Specialist Nutrition Meals for people with specific nutritional needs. Emily has more than 10 years of dietetic experience and has been working in the food industry as a Dietitian for around five years, together in clinical settings including acute and community dietetics prior to that. Emily is a member of the BDA Industry Specialist Group and a committee member of the Food Services Specialist Group of the BDA.
More about Belinda - Belinda is Head of Commercial for a small pharmaceutical company based in Deeside North Wales, operating in the food allergy space. Previously she has worked in the NHS, higher education and medical nutrition. She is chair of the North West North Wales Branch. A vocal advocate for dietitians, she is especially proud of her peers working in industry. She loves eating and cooking, walking her dog "Bear" and going on holidays with her family.

About Lucy - she is an accomplished food industry professional and entrepreneur, with 19 years of experience. Beginning her career as a Concept Technologist in food manufacturing at Bakkavor, before moving on to work as a Product Developer for leading retailers such as Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's. In 2012, Lucy launched Pudology, a first-to-market chilled plant-based dessert brand that went on to achieve national success. Today Lucy focuses on working with early-stage Food & Drink businesses, providing expert guidance on all aspects of product development, food safety, compliance, and general support through all the challenges of concept to launch. Lucy is dedicated to inspiring and educating the next generation of food industry professionals and entrepreneurs, helping them navigate the challenges and opportunities in the industry. Putting HCPC standards into practice for industry RDs – Expert session with Rosemary Flowers-Wanjie, Policy Manager, HCPC.
We will discuss the Standards of Proficiency, what they mean in practice and how you can use tools like the HCPC gap analysis tool to guide your CPD activities. We’ll also discuss the updated Standards of conduct, performance and ethics that are coming into effect in September 2024.
About Rosemary - she is a policy manager at the HCPC. She works on reviewing HCPC standards. Recently, she updated the Standards of conduct, performance and ethics and the guidance that accompanies it. She has an LLM in human rights and her research previously focused on access to healthcare.
Student placements within industry – Exploring the possibilities with Dr Stacey Jones - Principal Lecturer and Course Lead for Dietetics, University of Worcester.
This session will provide an overview of student training opportunities in Industry settings. We will hear from students who will share their experiences of having non-clinical placements, as well as hearing from a Dietitian in Industry who will share her experience of hosting student placements including the logistics and the benefits to offering placements. We will then invite the audience to explore the possibilities of hosting their own student placements within their organisations.
About Stacey - She has been a HCPC registered dietitian for 15 years, with experience working in both public health and as a community specialist dietitian. Recently Stacey completed her doctoral thesis, specialising in the area of prevention and management of sarcopenia. For the past 9 years, Stacey has worked in academia, leading an undergraduate course, and more recently, setting up a brand-new undergraduate dietetics course. She has a vast knowledge of curriculum design, facilitating student training, and working in partnership with practice educators. For the past 6 years, Stacey has held numerous BDA voluntary roles, including a committee member for the Older Peoples Specialist Group and this year, a position on the committee for the BDA Industry Dietitians Specialist Group to help the development of new student placements within the industry sector.

About Imogen - Imogen's enthusiasm for the field of probiotics lead her to joining Symprove 4 years ago, and since then she has worked to inspire and educated other healthcare professionals in a variety of ways. Her main role is to provide Q+A sessions for HCPs wanting to learn more about the mechanisms of action and evidence base behind Symprove, and alongside this she also offers staff training in health food stores and contributes expert commentary to media publications when required. Imogen's talk will highlight the pros and cons of using her dietetics degree in a corporate setting outside the NHS, and give an overview of the current landscape of the probiotic industry.
