As part of our Dietetic Workforce Development Programme, our project to support the development of resources to dietitian in this area saw the BDA Mental Health Specialist Group host a special webinar series in Mental Health Awareness Week 2023, 15-21 May.

1. Dietetics in MH/LD/ED: Summary of findings

Hear from the project team for an overview of the project and findings. The 90-minute session set the scene about the project; summary of findings; recommendations and actions plus catch up on the interactive activity on promoting the role of Dietitians in Mental Health/Learning Disabilities/Eating Disorders (MH/LD/ED).

Who is this session for?
This session is aimed at all Dietitians and Dietetic students, not just those working in mental health, learning disabilities and eating disorders. 

  • Have you ever worked with a patient with a mental health condition, learning disabilities or eating disorder and want to know more? 
  • Do you want to learn more about Dietetics in this area? 
  • Do you work in this area or have taken part in the project and want to learn about the recommendations and actions?

2. Practice Based Learning in MH/LD/ED

Watch back this session to find out about what practice based learning in Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Eating Disorders (MH/LD/ED) can look like, the benefits of offering placements in this area. 

The 90-minute session covered AHP Practice Education in MH/LD/ED and Practice Based Learning in Mental Health, Learing Disabilities and Mental Health, what models can be used to provide students with this experience and the benefits and challenges from the University, organisation and student perspective.

Who is this session for?
This session is aimed at all Dietitians and Dietetic students, not just those working in Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Eating Disorders (MH/LD/ED). 

  • Are you a Dietitian who supports patients with a mental health condition, learning disabilities or eating disorder and want to understand how to support practice-based learning with this patient group?

3. Preceptorship in Mental Health

This session provided an overview of Preceptorship in Mental Health. The 90-minute session covered What is Preceptorship?; National Update; Preceptorship in MH/LD/ED Resource; LYPFT Preceptorship: Organisation and Preceptee example; How can we make a start?

Who is this session for?
This session is aimed at all Dietitians and Dietetic students, not just those working in mental health, learning disabilities and eating disorders. 

  • Are you a Dietitian who has recently qualified and see patients with a mental health condition, learning disabilities or eating disorders in the area that you work? 
  • Are you a Dietetic student who wants to hear about the support on offer once you qualify? 
  • Are you a clinical supervisor wanting to understand more about supporting newly qualified Dietitians, especially if they will be working in mental health, learning disabilities or eating disorders?

4. Retention and progression for Dietitians working in MH/LD/ED
