Enhanced dietary management of adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Aim:

  1. Provide in depth knowledge and skills in the nutritional care of adults living with IBD. 
  1. Apply knowledge when discussing case studies and reflecting on your local IBD service 
  1. Explore the nutritional problems associated with medical and surgical interventions for IBD and provide an understanding of appropriate dietetic management. 
  1. Improve awareness of future innovations in IBD

Learning Outcomes:

  • By the end of this blended learning course, delegates will be able to:
  • Improve understanding of IBD including subtypes, disease severity, diagnosis, monitoring and medical and surgical management. 
  • Be able to refer to current national and international guidelines/standards for the dietary management of IBD. 
  • Have a good knowledge of medical and surgical management for IBD. 
  • Provide guidance to patients in managing their conditions during active disease and in remission. 
  • Be able to reduce the risk of and identify disordered eating and know when to refer on to specialist services. 
  • Support patients with complications of IBD including post-surgical nutritional implications and high output stomas. 
  • Demonstrate understanding of nutritional therapies for IBD including enteral and parenteral nutrition. 
  • Provide advice to patients experiencing side effects from EEN. 
  • Have an awareness of IBD medications and their nutritional implications. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of methods of data collection including the use of validated questionnaires. 
  • Have a knowledge of emerging nutritional and medical therapies in IBD.
