Hosted by Freelance Dietitians Specialist Group

Speaker Dr Linia Patel (PhD), RD

Constant fatigue, poor recovery, mood swings, loss of menstrual cycles, injuries, gut issues, a loss of focus and hormonal imbalances are all common signs of Low Energy Availability (LEA) or Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). When active individuals don’t fuel enough or properly for their sport of active lifestyle they are at risk of under fuelling and heading into a state of low energy availability. Hormones mediate the positive adaptive changes due to exercise training and ultimately affect performance. Understanding and harnessing these mechanisms is key for optimal performance.
