This study session will focus on nutritional strategies for managing complex gastroenterology patients. Our specialist speakers will share current practice, ongoing research & case studies, followed by a panel Q&A with Lee Martin, Gemma Fagan & Catherine Hayes.

About our speakers
- Gemma Fagen - Gemma Fagan is a research-active Dietitian with over six years of specialist experience in gastrointestinal care at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. She has worked across a range of GI specialties, including the management of oesophago-gastric and colorectal disorders, as well as Intestinal Failure. She is currently undertaking a full-time NIHR Pre-Doctoral Fellowship at King’s College London, focusing on the dietary management of gastroparesis. With a passion for holistic, weight-neutral and trauma-informed care, her work aims to improve the quality of life for people with GI disorders.
- Catherine Hayes - With over 19 years of experience, Catherine Hayes, is a highly specialist dietitian who has dedicated much of her career to working within the gastroenterology speciality and she currently works at Salford Care Organisation seeing inpatients and outpatients including tertiary referrals. She has a particular interest in neurogastroenterology, driven by her passion for working within multidisciplinary teams, managing complex clinical presentations, and delivering intensive dietetic input to enhance patient outcomes. She is also committed to quality improvement and is especially engaged in developing collaborative psychology-dietetic approaches to support patients with complex functional GI presentations

Lee Martin - Lee Martin has been practicing as a registered dietitian for 17 years and has worked across primary, secondary and tertiary care as well as in academia. In 2018 he was appointed as the UK’s first Neurogastroenterology Dietitian at University College London Hospital (UCLH) where he works currently. In this role Lee works closely with the GI Physiology Unit and Neurogastroenterology Consultants in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He has a clinical practice and research interest in the assessment and management of refractory Disorders of Gut Brain Interaction (DGBI) and overlapping central sensitivity syndromes. He is always happy to discuss challenging neurogastro dietetic cases.
