This introductory-level course is designed for:
- Graduates, dietitians, and dietetic assistants who are new to the field of obesity.
- Dietitians from other specialisms seeking to broaden their knowledge and expand their scope of practice in obesity management.
The course provides foundational knowledge and practical insights to support effective, evidence-based care for individuals living with obesity. It also serves as a precursor to the "Dietary Management of Obesity Medications and Bariatric Surgery" course.
Aim:
To empower dietitians & the support workforce, working across all levels & specialities with adults with obesity to feel confident in being able to raise the topic of weight management and to explore the range of evidence-based behavioural change and diet interventions available.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the day participants should;
- Have a greater awareness of what it feels like to be a person living with obesity
- Be confident in being able to sensitively raise the importance of weight management in a non-judgemental and non-stigmatising way
- Have a knowledge of mental health, psychological and social needs and where to identify appropriate support
- Have knowledge of the range of different behavioural change strategies that have been proven to be effective in supporting weight management
- Have knowledge of a range of diet (and physical activity) interventions that have been proven to be effective in supporting weight management
