The BDA is pleased to launch its interactive Dietetic Career Framework, which is designed to support career progression and continual professional development for the whole of the dietetic workforce.
It replaces the existing Support Workforce Professional Development Framework and the Post Registration Professional Development Framework to create a single inclusive document that supports individuals from supportive roles through to consultant level practice.
Recognising that the dietetic workforce practice in many different environments, including within the NHS, private healthcare, public health, freelance, academia, food services, industry and the media, the framework has been designed to meet professional development needs no matter the area in which they work. This document can be used by individuals for personal growth or by those in leadership roles to guide the professional development of team members.
Each of the seven levels of practice have been defined from supportive through to consultant level. The four pillars of practice have been used alongside these levels to create a comprehensive framework outlining the expected capabilities, skills and knowledge to support individuals to work at the top of their level of practice. This document, which also outlines the education requirements for each level of practice, will help individuals to identify areas for development either within their current level or to plan progression to the next level if desired.
The framework is available both as a printable PDF document and as an interactive webpage on the BDA website. This document has been designed to be user-friendly, with additional functionality that enables users to filter content according to level of practice and view each of the four pillars individually. Links to resources and other useful webpages are also included to enable individuals to navigate career changes and opportunities with ease.

“Whether individuals are at the start of their careers or in advanced level roles, it’s important that the whole dietetic workforce is supported. This document offers clear, actionable guidance for professional growth that will allow people to build a long and fulfilling career within the dietetic workforce.”
