Simone Do Carmo
MSci
I’m a sports nutritionist, exercise physiologist and personal trainer, as well as the joint course coordinator at the Centre for Integrative Sports Nutrition.
I own Personal Best Fitness & Nutrition (PBFN), which provides sports nutrition consultation services to recreational and competitive clients. PBFN also delivers customised nutrition workshops to sports clubs and staff based at the University of Glasgow.
I’m a practitioner registrant on the UK Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register, which is managed by the British Dietetic Association. Additionally, I’m an EREPS-registered personal trainer and I hold a Level 1 ISAK accreditation from the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry.
I graduated with a first class, five-year MSci in Physiology, Sports Science and Nutrition from the University of Glasgow in 2016. After being awarded the Cathcart Scholarship, I did the work placement year of my degree at the Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine (ESSM/UCT), based at the Sport Science Institute of South Africa. During this placement, I gained valuable, hands-on experience in podiatric biomechanics and performance nutrition.
As an advocate for whole foods and an individualised approach to nutrition, I’m interested in nutritional strategies to optimise performance, recovery and prevent injuries from an integrative health perspective. My passion areas include nutrition for strength and power-based sports, skeletal muscle hypertrophy, plant-based nutrition and REDs.
With a sporting background in athletics and powerlifting, I’m learning to manage ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and now enjoy lifting weights for overall health and wellbeing.
