BDA National Student Event

The BDA invites you to attend this FREE national event where you will join fellow nutrition and dietetic students studying across the UK in finding out more about the BDA student membership community, how our membership can both support your studies and provide you with invaluable resources whilst you're on clinical placement, plus highlight all of the excellent opportunities available to you including volunteering, learning, networking and adding to your CV - all giving you a head start in your future careers. 

You’ll also hear from a range of high-profile dietitians who will outline their exciting careers in industry, clinical, media and research and their journey from dietetic student to where they are now. They’ll provide useful tips and insights, and answer any questions you have to support you in your future career pathway.

Guest Speakers

Sammie Gill, Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian, and Scientific Research and Development Manager at Symprove

Sammie has a PhD in the area of gut health, specifically on the effectiveness of probiotics in sporting populations. After qualifying, she spent two years working at the British Dietetic Association (BDA) as a Policy Officer in Evidence-Based Practice. She then undertook her Postdoctoral Research Associate role at King’s College London in nutrition and functional gut disorders, followed by a clinical role in gastroenterology at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She now works as Scientific Research and Development Manager at Symprove.

 

Simeon Ramet, Head of Medical Affairs (Adult Nutrition) Nutricia

Simeon qualified as a Registered Dietitian in 2002 from Leeds Metropolitan University having previously completed a BSc (Hons) in Applied Nutrition at the University of Greenwich. Between 2002 and 2005 Simeon worked in several roles in the NHS before joining Nutricia in 2005. At Nutricia he has worked across adult and paediatric medical nutrition brands which include Fortisip, Nutrison and Neocate. Between 2011 and 2015 he also worked in the global head office, based in Amsterdam helping other countries to launch new products that help to support patients who require nutrition support.

His role at Nutricia now involves leading a team of specialists working on a diverse range of projects, from bringing new innovations to market, education and training to complex digital projects such as developing new apps and websites for healthcare professionals and patients.

Katie Kennedy, Company Dietitian, Dr Schär UK Ltd

Katie graduated with a MNutr degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Nottingham in 2003. Her first dietetic role was a community post in Cambridgeshire, covering a range of clinical and health promotion activities. Following this, she took a role as a specialist paediatric dietitian in Nottingham, specialising in diabetes and gastroenterology. Katie embarked on her first industry role in 2007, taking a position as Senior Dietitian at Alpro UK. She started her own freelance dietetic consultancy business in 2009 to fit around family commitments, before taking her current position as Company Dietitian for Dr Schär UK in 2011. In her role for Dr Schär, Katie provides support to the local marketing and sales team, helps to oversee Dr Schär’s medical research programme and collaborates with international colleagues regarding product development and recipe reformulation.
