Dr Alison Culkin, Consultant Dietitian, St Mark’s Hospital, London will be discussing:-

  • The RCP framework, including an overview to help dietitians understand why and how they can audit their prescribing practice. 
  • Data collection and dissemination.

More about Alison- Alison is a Consultant Dietitian in Intestinal Rehabilitation at St Mark’s Hospital, London where she has worked since 1998. She specialises in severe intestinal failure, intestinal rehabilitation and home parenteral nutrition (HPN).

She completed her PhD in 2010 investigating the manipulation of amino acids in HPN on patient outcomes as well as patient knowledge and behaviour change. In addition, she investigated the immune status of patients requiring HPN specifically their dendritic cell and gut homing lymphocyte function. 

She has written chapters on intestinal failure for several textbooks, papers and abstracts and teaches nationally and internationally. 

She is the course lead for the British Dietetic Association Parenteral and Enteral specialist Group (PENG) Masters level clinical update course and represents Dietitians on national and international committees.
 
In March 2017 she became the first registered dietitian to qualify as a non-medical prescriber and is chair of the BDA Prescribers subgroup. 

Dr Yvonne Jeanes, BDA Head of Research and Impact will be covering:

More about Yvonne- Yvonne is a registered dietitian who studied at the University of Surrey, where she also completed her PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry. She has over 20 years’ experience leading a diverse research programme spanning clinical and academic settings. 

Since 2014, her work has focused on gastroenterology, with a focus on healthcare provision for coeliac disease and more broadly guideline development to support effective knowledge mobilisation into practice.  Yvonne is leading the BDA  Gastroenterology Specialist Group IBS guideline development project with 22 expert IBS dietitians. 

In 2025, she was appointed Head of Research and Impact at the British Dietetic Association. She is a member of the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) Research and Evidence-Based Practice Committee.

    More about Sarah- Sarah is the BDA’s Policy and Campaigns Officer for Northern Ireland, and she leads the UK wide campaign to extend independent prescribing rights to dietitians nationwide. Sarah joined the BDA in 2024 bringing with her over 10 years of political, policy and communications experience across the education, environment and women’s sector. As campaign lead for independent prescribing, she chairs the campaign working group, is responsible for campaign strategy, and represents the BDA on #PrescribingNow.
