A digital vision for the dietetic workforce

17 April 2025

The BDA is pleased to launch its Digital Vision, a document for the whole of the dietetic workforce, aimed at fostering good practice when working digitally. It is there to support members with using digital tools and technology and provide a longer-term outlook for its future use.

Due to the rapid and evolutionary nature of digital working, the BDA Digital Vision endeavours to predict how the landscape of nutrition and dietetics as a profession may grow and develop.

Topics covered include training, safety and governance as well as the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It also puts a case forward for implementing digital buddies and champions within organisations to support a digitally mature workforce.

Liz Stockley, CEO of the BDA said, “This isn’t about losing the human aspect of dietetics. Technology is unable to replicate the creativity, ethics, emotional intelligence and effective communication that are so critical in the profession. Instead, it may support the workforce to achieve increased and more efficient outcomes, with the aim of improving overall service user care.”

The BDA’s Digital Vision has been created in collaboration with professionals from a wide range of specialist areas through roundtables, surveys, focus groups and individual meetings and communications. With thanks to Will Hadfield, Subject Matter Expert and Amy Curtis-Brown, Professional Practice Officer at the BDA, in addition to all those who have contributed their time and expertise.
