Neonatal Dietetic Education

eLearning for Health Modules 

The eLearning for Health neonatal modules were commissioned by Health Education England and launched in 2022. Neonatal dietetic modules were developed by an expert group of neonatal dietitians.  To support practical application, these online modules have an associated workbook with tasks and case studies. The eLearning for Health module is available free to all NHS employees via the following links:

Introduction to AHPs in Neonatal Care 

Designed to be completed prior to undertaking the profession-specific allied health professional (AHP) sessions. It is suitable for any healthcare professional who will be working on a neonatal unit. It will guide you through a brief overview of the environment and specialist cohort of patients treated in the neonatal unit.

Neonatal dietetics foundation level: Part 1

Nutrition is one area of neonatal care which needs to be supported by expert dietitians as critical members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). This course will build on your knowledge and skills, enhancing your expertise to embed nutritional interventions that impact nutrition culture in the neonatal unit and optimise the nutritional care for preterm and sick babies. 

Neonatal dietetics foundation level: Part 2

This session will build on your knowledge and skills to enhance your expertise to deliver nutritional interventions that impact feeding and growth in the neonatal unit and beyond.

Enteral Nutrition in Preterm Infants: ESPGHAN Recommendations

Improve your clinical practice as you discover the evidence-based ESPGHAN recommendations for effective enteral nutrition.

Join a global classroom of learners with the opportunity to interact and discuss hot topics in neonatal nutrition.  During this free 4-week course (3-hours per week) you will hear from personal experiences, you’ll explore breast milk fortification, donor human milk, supplemental bionutrients, and learn how to conduct a holistic assessment of nutritional status.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to deliver more effective care in your clinical neonatal practice.
