Neonatal Dietetic Education

eLearning for Health Modules 

The eLearning for Health neonatal modules were commissioned by Health Education England and launched in 2022. Neonatal dietetic modules were developed by an expert group of neonatal dietitians.  To support practical application, these online modules have an associated workbook with tasks and case studies. The eLearning for Health module is available free to all NHS employees via the following links:
 
Designed to be completed prior to undertaking the profession-specific allied health professional (AHP) sessions. It is suitable for any healthcare professional who will be working on a neonatal unit. It will guide you through a brief overview of the environment and specialist cohort of patients treated in the neonatal unit.
 
Nutrition is one area of neonatal care which needs to be supported by expert dietitians as critical members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). This course will build on your knowledge and skills, enhancing your expertise to embed nutritional interventions that impact nutrition culture in the neonatal unit and optimise the nutritional care for preterm and sick babies. 
 
This session will build on your knowledge and skills to enhance your expertise to deliver nutritional interventions that impact feeding and growth in the neonatal unit and beyond.

 

NHS Learning Hub - Enhanced Modules for Allied Health Professionals Working in Neonatal Care

This session gives a basic overview of parenteral nutrition (PN) for premature infants. It includes the indications for PN use, nutritional requirements used, components that PN contains, how to administer it, how to safely monitor it and how to stop it. It details the benefits and risks of giving PN and ideas for further reading.
 
This session will support and develop your knowledge on the main types of gastrointestinal surgery undertaken in neonates including for congenital malformations and necrotising enterocolitis (NEC).

A specialised module focussed on all aspects of neonatal nutrition. Essential learning for dietitians working on neonatal units.

ESPGHAN Online Courses

This course is designed for paediatric gastroenterologists, dietitians, and specialist nurses working with children affected by Short Bowel Syndrome and intestinal failure. On this two-week course, you’ll explore the latest evidence-based approaches to treatment, nutrition, and long-term care to improve patient outcomes.
