Assessing Capacity Regarding Diet, Weight and Health

**NEW COURSE**

This brand new course, at the BDA office in Birmingham was developed by the BDA Mental Health Specialist Group,  aims to provide practitioners working with people who might lack capacity and have dietetic needs essential knowledge on the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and how to apply this to diet, weight, and health. Case studies will cover learning disabilities, older persons, and mental health. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand the mental capacity act
  • To consider how this applies to diet, weight and health
  • To understand when to complete a capacity assessment relating to diet, weight and health
  • To understand who can complete a capacity assessment relating to diet, weight and health
  • To understand how to complete a capacity assessment relating to diet, weight and health
  • To understand how to respond to the outcome of the capacity assessment relating to diet and who to communicate this with.
