Philip Coghill and John Falnnery from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
Philip Coghill is the Royal College of Nursing's Head of Pay, Terms & Conditions in Scotland. A learning disability nurse by trade, an experience trade union leader and charity chair, Philip has gained an expertise in healthcare, employment relations and governance. In his role at the RCN, Philip leads the national pay strategy, collective bargaining negotiations with NHS Scotland Health Boards, the Scottish Government around a range of issues such as nursing pay, job evaluation, and pensions.
John Flannery is the Pay Delivery Officer for the Royal College of Nursing in Scotland. With over 20 years experience as a trade union activists within the NHS holding the role of Staff Side Lead, and has been a national job evaluation trainer since 2016. Since joining the RCN in 2024 his efforts have focussed on the design and delivery of the Review of Band 5 Nursing Roles and "Know Your Worth" campaigns, including a series of roadshows visiting every health board in Scotland.
About the webinar series
The webinar is open to all members who simply want to find out what the BDA Trade Union is doing for them behind the scenes and what it can do to support during times of need. It will encourage members to get involved and demonstrate how being a rep develops skills, supports career growth and improves workplaces. The more members that get involved, the stronger the BDA will be as a professional association.
