This session explores the emerging use of GLP-1 receptor agonist use in people with cystic fibrosis (CF), focusing on medication mechanisms, potential changes on body composition, practical insights from case studies and a look at how the MDT may support their patients on GLP-1’s.

  • David Proud is the lead adult CF Dietitian at the All Wales Adult CF Centre, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Wales.

More about David- David has practiced for 23 years in total and worked in adult CF care for 15 years. He is the current Co-Chair of the BDA CF Group and has a particular interest in utilising body composition biomarkers in order to aid the health of people with CF. David is currently exploring the effect of GLP-1 medication in the context of body composition changes in CF.

  • Francine Lewis, Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse at Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre

More about Francine- Francine has 13 years of experience as a diabetes specialist nurse, primarily in paediatric type 1 diabetes, with the last 4 years focused on adult cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD). As part of the multidisciplinary CFRD team, Francine has been closely involved in supporting a small cohort of patients using GLP-1 therapies, helping to develop clinical experience and patient-centred approaches within CFRD care".

  • Hannah Winterbottom, Cystic Fibrosis Specialist Dietitian at Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre

More about Hannah- Prior to moving into cystic fibrosis care 5 years ago, Hannah worked as a diabetes specialist dietitian in Hull and East Yorkshire, where she first encountered GLP-1 therapies and saw the positive impact they could have within the diabetes population. Hannah has since developed a particular interest in the nutritional and metabolic challenges associated with cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD). As part of the CFRD multidisciplinary team, she has been involved in supporting patients using GLP-1 therapies and exploring their role within CF management".

  • Lauren Lewis, CF Diabetes Specialist Nurse at Leeds Adult CF Centre in Leeds

More about Lauren-  Lauren was appointed as a CF Diabetes Specialist Nurse since May 2025.  Prior to this, she  has worked within diabetes services since 2016 and has been a Diabetes Specialist Nurse since 2019.  Lauren has first-hand experience in working with individuals with  Types 1 and 2 diabetes who have been prescribed GLP-1 therapies.  In the last year she has experience with a small number of adults with Cf diabetes where GLP- therapy has been prescribed.

  • Dee Shimmin, Lead CF Dietitian at Leeds Adult CF Centre

More about Dee- Dee has joined the team in 2016.  Prior to this she worked as a CF dietitian in the Adult CF Unit in Belfast. With CF diabetes, overweight and obesity being significant co-morbidities within the CF population, Dee is interested in the role GLP-1 therapies  and how they might improve nutritional and metabolic outcomes.
