Diabetes Specialist Group and Prescribers Specialist Sub-Group - Advancing Diabetes Prescribing in Dietetics: From building the Case to Clinical Impact

The session will be delivered by three experienced diabetes specialist dietitian prescribers, working in specialist pump services, diabetes out patient services, and within primary care. Using vignettes, data and service examples, the added value of DSD prescribers will be illustrated.  

This webinar aims to:

  • Increase understanding of the scope of prescribing dietitians in diabetes management across NHS settings
  • To increase depth of knowledge of prescribing in practice in diabetes for adults with type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
  • To increase confidence and skill in identifying potential business cases for increasing diabetes dietetic prescribers within the workforce, and enhance career progression.
  • Increase knowledge of signposting to resources and tools to support aspiring prescribers and developing current practice.

More about Christiana- Experienced Diabetes Specialist Dietitian with over 20 years of clinical practice in Type 1 diabetes, complex Type 2 diabetes, and diabetes in pregnancy. Passionate about delivering patient-centred care that empowers individuals through education and self-management support. Skilled in diabetes technology, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring, with extensive experience training both patients and healthcare professionals. Recently appointed as a Diabetes Technology Practitioner and a Non-medical prescriber for over five years, actively integrating prescribing into daily clinical practice to deliver holistic diabetes care.

  • Sejal Pandya, Service lead diabetes dietitian, Countess of Chester Hospital

More about Sejal- Sejal is the Resource Officer for the BDA Prescribing Group and Clinical Lead Diabetes Dietitian at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. A dietitian for 34 years, she spent 24 years working with adults with cystic fibrosis in Liverpool before qualifying as a dietitian prescriber in 2019. Following completion of a Master's degree in Diabetes, she moved into diabetes specialist practice and now leads diabetes dietetic services. Sejal is passionate about advancing the dietetic profession, supporting the development of dietitian prescribing, and improving patient care through innovation and collaborative working.

  • Grace Zaman, a highly specialised diabetes detitian, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust

More about Grace- Grace is a highly specialist diabetes dietitian with over 11 years of NHS clinical experience, including more than five years in diabetes care. She jointly developed a dietetic service for newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes and completed her Non-Medical Prescribing qualification in 2023. Her specialist interests include antenatal diabetes, transition & young adult diabetes care, and supporting people to achieve Type 2 diabetes remission.
