Introducing Behavioural Science to Understand and Change the Dietary Behaviours of Athletes

Facilitators: Louise Sutton,  Dr Meghan Bentley & Professor Susan Backhouse

This one-day course is designed for sports nutritionists at all levels, wanting to inform, develop, or review their service to promote nutritional adherence in athletes.

Addressing most issues in society, from daily challenges to complex problems, requires an understanding of how and why people behave the way they do. The purpose of this course is to enable sport nutritionists to develop their understanding of the barriers and enablers of human behaviour as well as the contexts shaping our decision-making.

This course combines a mixture of behavioural science theory and practice. It will introduce the principles of an evidence-based approach to behaviour change, and there will be practical activities to help practitioners develop an understanding of athletes’ dietary behaviour through conducting a behavioural analysis. Delegates will have the opportunity to reflect on how they design and develop their nutritional service and plan how they can implement behavioural science into their professional practice straight away.
