In an exploratory study within a virtual care service, the authors examined the experiences and attitudes of individuals using GLP-1 medications (GLP-1s) for weight loss, focusing on motivators, barriers and reasons for discontinuation.
Associate Professor Amanda Avery RD is programme lead for the MNutr and MSc Clinical Nutrition programmes at the University of Nottingham. She is also Consultant dietitian in weight management at Slimming World working in a research capacity within the Nutrition, Research & Health Policy team. Amanda’s research tends to be ‘real-world’, addresses health inequalities and looks at weight management across the life-course. She has been a BDA OSG committee member for over 20years, currently acting as research officer. She is also Chair of the EFAD Public Health specialist group supporting projects related to food insecurity.
Dr Enzo M. Battista Dowds PhD RD is a Highly Specialist Weight Management Dietitian and Research Lead at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Wales. He chairs the PILLAR research group and is the local PI for the LightWay study on integrated meal replacement and GLP 1–supported Tier 3 pathways. His research focuses on implementation science, polygenic obesity risk and service attrition, and he serves as ASO Wales Regional Lead and BDA Obesity Specialist Group Wales Representative).
