We are delighted to announce an upcoming joint study say hosted by the PENG and Gastroenterology specialist groups, and taking place in Manchester this autumn.
The day will feature a dynamic programme including topics such as the gut microbiome and C.difficile, rehabilitation, trophic feeding, and enteral nutrition in liver disease.

More about Gemma - Gemma is clinical academic dietitian. She works at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust as a Senior Dietitian and Allied Health Professional Research Leader. She is currently completing a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Doctoral Fellowship undertaking her PhD at the University of Leicester researching blended diets for enteral tube feeding.
Talk summery - Gemma's talk will cover the use of blended diets for enteral tube feeding. She will share some information about her PhD research and how patients and families have been influential in the study. She will discuss the impact of blended diets with a specific focus on gastrointestinal symptoms and gut health.

More about Becca - Since qualifying in 2015, Becca has worked in a number of acute and community specialities, always with a nutrition support focus. She currently leads the nutrition support team at Salisbury District Hospital, providing care for the most clinically complex patients including enteral and parenteral nutrition. Becca also leads the long term enteral access service at the Trust, including assessing for and placing gastrostomy tubes as second operator. She qualified as a non medical prescriber in 2024, is a tutor on the PENG course and supports the BDA Advance Practice Specialist Interest group.
More about Beth - Beth qualified in 2008 and quickly develop an interest in Gastroenterology and Surgery. This led her to be the Intestinal Failure Dietitian in Exeter in 2013. For 10 years she supported the Nutrition Support Team and worked as the Acute Team Lead dietitian managing a team of 12 dietitian’s covering all aspects of acute care. In 2022, Beth was given the opportunity to develop her role into an ACP. Having completed a 3 year degree apprenticeship in Advanced Clinical Practice, Beth is now works for the Gastroenterology Department as a fully qualified ACP and leads the Intestinal Failure and Nutrition Support team. She qualified as a non-medical prescriber in 2017, is a tutor on the PENG course and is the secretary of the BDA Advance Practice Specialist Interest group.
Talk summery - Distal enteral feeding includes feeding through the distal limb of an enterocutaneous fistula (fistuloclysis) or through a defunctioned distal small bowel stoma/mucus fistula (enteroclysis). This talk will discuss the evidence, benefits and practicalities of this, in addition to showcasing a successful and not so successful case in practice.
