Adult Malnutrition: Recognise early, Intervene effectively With focus on Undernutrition

In the UK, around 3 million people are estimated to be either malnourished or at risk of malnutrition, with most living in the community rather than in hospitals or care homes.

  • 1.3 million people aged over 65 are estimated to be affected by malnutrition, and about 93% live in the community.
  • Approximately 1 in 10 adults aged 65+ are malnourished or at risk of malnutrition.

Recent BAPEN survey data found that 48% of adults screened across UK health and care settings were at risk of malnutrition.

Prevalence varies by setting:

  • 47% of hospital patients screened were at risk.
  • 42% of care-home residents screened were at risk.
  • 49% of people receiving care at home were at risk.

The course encompasses an in-depth overview around undernutrition, focusing on the aetiology and factors impacting on weight loss and malnutrition.  The course provides a detailed insight into identification and screening of malnutrition along with appropriate management in primary care.

Target Audience:

This course is aimed at non-dietitians, Medics and Pharmacists, and any healthcare professional with an interest in Nutrition and wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding in the area of undernutrition.
