Mary Turner Award (Trade Union Representative of the Year)

Recognising a BDA Rep of the Year who goes above and beyond

Named in memory of former BDA President Mary Turner, a tireless advocate of women in trade unionism and nutrition for school children.

Our members turn to our Trade Union Reps in times of need and they are essential to our support to the profession. They make time to listen to members, solve problems and make a huge difference to members' lives.

This award thanks one representative who has demonstrated the qualities of excellence and commitment.

2026 Nominations are now open which celebrates a BDA Rep of the Year who has gone above and beyond for members.

Every workplace rep plays an important part in supporting colleagues, raising concerns early and helping to create fair and safe working environments. This award is a chance to recognise those whose impact has been especially meaningful.

If you know a rep who has made a real difference, in their workplace, branch or wider community, you can put their name forward with a short paragraph explaining why you think they deserve the award.

A judging panel made up of Trade Union National Executive Committee members will review all nominations.

The deadline for nominations is 27 April. Email your nomination to [email protected].
