Our current student representative, Nicole Gamble, is reaching the end of her one year Student Rep term in September this year, and it's time for our student members to elect her successor.
The BDA Student Representative sits on the Board of Directors to champion the interests of dietetic students, ensuring the student voice is heard, valued and reflected across the organisation.
Acting as a key link between student members and the BDA, you’ll help shape conversations, support student engagement and recruitment activity, and contribute to student communications, including RD2B, our student newsletter.
If you’re a proactive student member looking to get more involved in the BDA, grow the student voice and reach, build your network with senior colleagues and gain valuable experience, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact while developing your skills.
We are delighted to share that applications can now be submitted. Nominations will close on Sunday 31 May 2026.
In the case of a contested election, voting amongst BDA student members will run for a period of four weeks, with the elected rep taking up the role in September. Please take a look at the application materials provided below, and email Stacy Tuohy, Membership Manager, with any questions.
You’ll contribute to Board discussions and wider BDA activity, bringing a student perspective to key decisions and helping ensure student needs are considered.
You’ll support student-facing social media, helping to create engaging, relevant content that reflects the student experience.
Working with the Communications team, you’ll help create content for student channels, contribute to campaigns and share ideas to improve engagement.
You’ll connect with student members throughout the year—listening to feedback, answering questions and helping keep the student community informed and involved.
You’ll act as an ambassador for the BDA, supporting student recruitment activity and encouraging others to get involved.
You’ll work closely with BDA teams, taking part in meetings and contributing to shared priorities across membership and communications.
Please read the following two documents to ensure you fully understand the student rep role and the expectations

Current Student Rep Nicole reflects on her time as Student Rep.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of being the Student Representative has been the opportunity to connect with and support other students. Whether it was just answering questions, sharing advice about placements and coursework, or simply being someone approachable, I found it really fulfilling to help others feel more confident and supported throughout their studies!
I particularly enjoyed attending the board meetings in Birmingham, as they gave me a real insight into what goes on behind the scenes. It was interesting to see how decisions are made and to have the opportunity to contribute student feedback that can help improve the overall student experience. Being part of those discussions made me feel like my voice genuinely mattered. The BDA have been amazing start to finish to make me feel included and supported so much.
The role has also helped me develop valuable skills in communication, leadership, and teamwork. Overall, it has been a really positive experience that has supported my personal and professional growth, I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in making a difference, supporting their peers, and getting more involved in BDA student life to apply for this fantastic opportunity!”
