Gastroenterology Specialist Group: Launch of the new BDA dietary guidelines for the management of chronic constipation webinar recording
Chronic constipation is a prevalent burdensome disorder with a significant impact on quality of life.
Despite dietary strategies being patients’ preferred management option for their constipation symptoms, previous clinical guidelines provided only a limited number of dietary recommendations, limiting the scope of evidence-based dietary clinical care.
In this webinar, the BDA is launching the first ever evidence-based BDA dietary guidelines for the management of chronic primary constipation in adults. These were developed using a rigorous approach, including four systematic reviews and meta-analyses, the GRADE approach and a multi-step Delphi survey among the guideline steering committee.
Overall, 59 evidence-based dietary recommendations have been made on several dietary supplements, foods and drinks.
The BDA guidelines include dietary strategies that have never been included in previous clinical guidelines before, considerably advancing dietetic care and providing new opportunities to improve patient care.
