Historically, kidney nutrition therapy has focused on protein and sodium intake. Now, dietary intervention has expanded to include the management of metabolic acidosis and a plant-based diet. Concurrently, advances in pharmacological therapies are significantly influencing contemporary renal dietetic practice. This joint presentation will provide a critical overview of the dietary management of the early stages of CKD.

Ravinder Sagoo and Bruno Mafrici
Ravinder is a renal dietitian with 10 years of experience and the founder of Kidney Nutrition Matters, a freelance consultation service. She is keen to bridge cultural and language gaps to ensure individuals from diverse backgrounds with CKD receive accurate nutritional guidance that is appropriate to their cultural diets. Ravinder has written articles for Kidney Care UK, CN magazine and has been nominated for CNs Magazine social media personality of the year.
Bruno is a renal dietitian with over 20 years of experience. Bruno is the editor of the Pocket Guide to Clinical Nutrition and in 2023, he began a part-time PhD investigating protein and amino acid losses during dialysis. He is passionate about how renal dietetic services are evolving in response to emerging evidence and changes in clinical practice. Bruno has written several papers and has been involved in many national guidelines, including the recent workforce guidelines for renal dietetics. He is also co-editor for CN magazine and the co-founder of Kidney Nutrition Matters.
