Monica Smith
Hi, I’m Mon, a Mental Health Dietitian.
I specialise in helping people improve their difficult relationships with food. Whether you are navigating physical health changes while on psychiatric medications, managing ADHD or autism, or recovering from an eating disorder, ARFID, depression, or anxiety, I am here to help.
I know firsthand how exhausting it can be to navigate healthy eating when you are struggling with your mental health. Often, the challenge isn't knowing what is healthy, but figuring out how to implement it when you are barely keeping your head above water.
I would love to support you on your journey to recovery and food freedom.
My journey to becoming a dietitian was inspired by the incredible healthcare professionals who supported my own recovery. They provided compassionate, life-changing care, and I wanted to be that person for others. I feel passionately that people living with severe mental illness often fall through the cracks and cannot access the specialized, empathetic dietetic support they truly need. I am here to change that.
My Clinical Experience Before qualifying as a Registered Dietitian, I worked extensively in mental health hospitals as a Healthcare Assistant. I’ve supported patients across acute adult wards, acute CAMHS, adult and CAMHS eating disorder units (EDUs), and addiction treatment programmes. I have also spent years working with young people in a variety of settings, including paediatric dietetics, sports, climbing, and charity work.
I am a fully qualified Registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a proud member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA), including their Specialist Interest Groups for Mental Health, Autism, and ARFID.
My practice is built on a foundation of non-judgmental, inclusive, and empowering care. I strive to meet your accessibility needs as much as possible, offering a safe space where you can be completely yourself.
I understand the complex intersection of mental and physical health. If you are struggling with the metabolic side effects of psychiatric medications, I can help you navigate those physical health changes safely. Where clinically appropriate, I also support healthy weight management in a way that helps you break away from restrictive eating patterns. Every intervention is carefully tailored and clinically assessed to fit your unique needs.
You don't have to navigate food and mental health alone. I would love to support you on your journey to recovery and food freedom.
