BDA mourns passing of Patron

08 Sep 2022

The British Dietetic Association (BDA) is extremely saddened to hear about the passing of our patron, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty had always been a strong supporter of the NHS, its staff and our members. No monarch has reigned over the UK for as long as Queen Elizabeth II, and during her reign we have seen our nation evolve and change rapidly since she ascended to the throne in 1952. In that time, we have seen our profession grow in size and recognition to the point where in 1983 her Majesty granted patronage to the BDA. Her support to the BDA has been invaluable and shows the dedication that she had to the health of the people of the United Kingdom.

Donations from the Privy Purse to the Education Trust Fund have been invaluable in training the NHS workforce of the future. The Royal Household staff have also worked with the BDA in the past to provide for a healthier environment and workplace, demonstrating the care and consideration the Queen had to those who worked for her.

The NHS and health care profession has lost a true friend and we are confident many across the nation will be mourning the Queen in hospitals and Care Homes opened or visited by her Majesty during her long reign.

We at the BDA extend our condolences to the Royal Family and all those who are mourning the passing of the Queen.
