Pre-application support fund

Who can apply?
Individuals intending to apply for an NIHR Career Development Award who require additional support to develop a competitive application. The scheme particularly encourages applications from under-represented groups within health and care research, including Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), nurses, midwives, pharmacists, healthcare scientists, public health professionals, and researchers from ethnic minority backgrounds or with disabilities.

Funding available:
Funding for up to 12 months to support the development of a future NIHR Career Development Award application. Funding may be used for protected time, training and development activities, mentorship, conference attendance, travel and subsistence, and other reasonable costs associated with preparing a future NIHR application.

Additional information:

  • Applicants must be eligible (or expected to be eligible) for an NIHR Career Development Award.
  • Applications can be submitted at any time throughout the year.
  • A host organisation is required (e.g. NHS organisation, higher education institution, or other health and care provider).
  • The fund is designed to support individuals who may benefit from additional time, training, mentorship, or other support to develop a competitive NIHR application.
