Speakers 

  • Kaye Coleman, Lecturer in Dietetics at University College Birmingham - Kaye Coleman is a Lecturer in Dietetics at University College Birmingham, specialising in Adult Weight Management and Diabetes, bringing over 20 years of experience in dietetics to her practice. Her career spans both acute and community environments, providing support to people living with obesity in each context. She is especially committed to delivering person‑centred care and to improving support for neurodivergent individuals.They will be speaking about The A-F of an adult weight management consultation, sharing insights from their experience in adult weight management.
     
  • Briony CaffreyTrainee Advanced Practitioner & Specialist Dietitian in Learning Disability, Autism, and Mental Health (Inpatient & Outpatient Services), Devon Partnership Trust -  Briony is a specialist dietitian in learning disability, autism, and mental health, leading and influencing practice for people with complex needs across clinical, education, and national contexts.

    She founded the BDA Learning Disabilities Sub-Group and developed the BDA Consent & Capacity Course. She is co-author of the e-Learning for Healthcare programme “Supporting Healthy Weight in an Adult with a Learning Disability” and has contributed to key national guidance, including the Caroline Walker Trust Eating Well Guide for People with Learning Disabilities and the Advanced Clinical Practice Capabilities Framework for learning disability and autism.

    Briony has published in peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Obesity, British Journal of Psychiatry, and Learning Disability Practice, as well as Dietetics Today. She is an established speaker, delivering lectures and webinars for national organisations and academic institutions, including the BDA, University of Winchester, Edge Hill University, University of Cumbria, University College London, and the Royal Society of Medicine.

    Currently training as an Advanced Practitioner, Briony’s work is committed to reducing health inequalities through holistic, person-centred care. She champions approaches that address diagnostic overshadowing, embed reasonable adjustments, and ensure the effective application of the Mental Capacity Act to improve access and outcomes for people with learning disabilities and autism.

  • Alex Larkin specialist dietitian for adults with learning disabilities, Wandsworth Learning Disability Healthcare Team at South West London & St George's Mental Health NHS Trust - Alex has over a decade of experience working in community dietetics and has predominantly worked with the learning disability population. Alex is the vice-chair of the BDA Learning Disabilities sub-group and has published in Dietetics Today and the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. In 2021 Alex won the Chief AHP Officer 'Public Health Champion' Award for her nutrition improvement project in care homes for adults with learning disabilities. Alex is currently completing her MSc. in Advanced Professional Practice in Dietetics at the University of Plymouth and is completing research in the area of nutritional screening of adults with learning disabilities. Alex has contributed to the 7th edition of the Manual of Dietetic Practice as a co-author of the Learning Disabilities chapter.
