Speakers

Heather Nunn, RD, Lead Prescribing Support Dietitian, NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB

Heather Nunn is a dedicated and experienced Prescribing Support Dietitian working within NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board. With a strong background in clinical nutrition and a passion for improving patient outcomes through evidence-based dietary interventions, Heather plays a pivotal role in optimising prescribing practices across primary care.

Her work focuses on ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of nutritional products, supporting healthcare professionals with guidance on appropriate prescribing, and promoting food-based approaches where possible. Heather is known for her collaborative approach, working closely with GPs, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals to deliver integrated care that meets the nutritional needs of diverse populations.

Since 2019, Heather has been an active committee member of the Optimising Nutrition Prescribing Specialist Group (ONPSG) and currently serves as its Chair. Heather has also contributed to the academic and professional development of the field, having supported the review of one chapter and co-authored a new chapter in the upcoming edition of the Manual of Dietetic Practice, due for release in early 2026. Her contributions reflect her commitment to continuous professional development and the advancement of dietetic practice.

Heather brings a wealth of practical insight into the challenges and opportunities in the prescribing of nutrition support products, and she is a passionate advocate for patient-centred care, sustainability in healthcare, and professional collaboration.

Monica Compton, Registered Dietitian

Monica Compton has been a Dietitian since 1988, practicing initially in the United States before moving to the United Kingdom in 1998. In the United States, Monica worked for Sodexo, USA as a Regional Nutritional Manager and oversaw the dietetic care of various health care settings across 3 states. Monica led the work on the development of a 5 week cycle menu programme consisting of menus, application for all diets, cost analysis and recipes.

Monica has been working in the Nutrition and Dietetic Department in Northamptonshire since 1998 having various roles as a Home Enteral Dietitian, Nutrition team dietitian and over the past 12 years supporting the ICB’s medicines optimisation team as a Dietetic Prescribing Advisor. Monica gained Non Medical Prescribing rights in 2019 and was using it to manage patients on parenteral nutrition.

Monica is a member of the British Dietetic Association and is the Education Officer for the Optimising Nutrition Prescribing Specialist Group (ONPSG). Monica has been a committee member for over 7 years holding various roles and was chair when the group was awarded independence in 2019. Monica led the development of the Outcome Indicator Toolkit, supported 2 chapter revisions for the Dietetic Manual and was a member of the group who developed and launched the BDA Care Home Digest in 2024.
